Tariff Cuts Set to Save UK Traders £17 Million Annually

The UK government has introduced a two-year suspension of import duties on 89 products, starting from 27 April 2025. The move is designed to support economic growth by lowering costs for businesses and consumers.

The zero rating suspension covers a range of everyday items often in demand during the summer months, including:

  • Pasta

  • Fruit juice

  • Coconut oil

  • Pine nuts

  • Spices

  • Plywood

  • Plastics

  • Gardening products

These tariff changes are expected to save UK traders approximately £17 million annually, providing relief across several supply chains.

The suspended rates will remain in effect until July 2027.

In a government statement, officials noted:

“The UK has already reduced tariffs on certain imported goods, providing British consumers with greater choice, improved quality, and better prices—for example, fruit juices from Peru and vacuum cleaners from Malaysia.”

The statement also highlighted ongoing trade negotiations with countries such as India, South Korea, Switzerland, and members of the Gulf Cooperation Council, with the aim of expanding trade opportunities, supporting job creation, and increasing wages.
