We are pleased to announce that we have appointed our first ever apprentice. Eighteen-year-old Joanna Jago has taken up the role of apprentice Freight Forwarder at our Telford headquarters.
The former Thomas Telford School student will work within our existing customer service team, supporting new and existing customers to move products around the world via land, sea, air and road.
Joanna, who lives in Telford, will gain experience across each area of the business during her 18-month apprenticeship while working towards NVQ qualifications at Level 2 and 3 in Business Administration.
She said: “I was attracted to the role because it was so different from all the other opportunities available. I am already learning a wide set of skills and will be working across the departments at Global Freight throughout my apprenticeship.
“It’s a really interesting and fast paced environment to work in and I would hope to continue working here after my apprenticeship is completed.”
Joanna completed a BTEC in Business Studies alongside A Levels in art, English literature and history at school. She applied for the apprenticeship through County Training.
National Sales Manager Anton Gunter said: “This is a very exciting opportunity for Joanna to gain skills and knowledge in a real working environment, helping us to ship everything from personal belongings to high quality artwork, in and out of 150 countries worldwide.
“Joanna is enthusiastic and eager to learn and is already proving to be an asset to the Global Freight team. As this is the first apprenticeship we have ever hosted, it is a learning experience for us too but if all goes well, we would hope to continue offering this opportunity in the future.”
Global Freight is one of the leading freight forwarders in the Midlands and was shortlisted in the Insider 2014 Midlands International Trade Awards. The company also won the Shropshire Small Business of the Year award in 2010.
