It’s less than two months to go before the county’s best businesses battle it out for top honours at the Shropshire Business Awards 2014.
And for the third year in a row, former winner Global Freight is showing its support of the event and the business community by sponsoring the International Trade category.
The award will go to the company which has excelled in exporting, importing, and built healthy links with suppliers or customers overseas.
Managing director of Global Freight, Nicole Howarth, said “The International Trade award recognises companies which are successfully doing business in overseas markets
“When you consider that the majority of Shropshire’s companies are SMEs, the fact that so many of them are excelling at exporting or importing is not only worth recognising but celebrating too. They are the proof that small companies can do big business beyond the shores of the UK.
“As a previous winner of a Shropshire Business Award, we know the commitment and drive it takes to do business overseas, and that’s why we’re delighted to be sponsoring this category.”
Companies need to demonstrate a forward-thinking and structured approach to trading overseas; an understanding of different cultures and practices in foreign markets; training of staff to communicate efficiently and effectively with overseas clients; tailoring of products or processes to meet needs of different marketplaces and show evidence of international trade improving the performance of the business
Sponsoring the award is just one way in which Global Freight is supporting companies looking to launch or expand their international trade programmes.
Nicole added: “Many SMEs, which make up more than 90 per cent of Shropshire economic landscape, want to import and export but don’t have the procedures or knowledge in-house to trade overseas.
“That’s why throughout the year we support a number of events, including Chamber of Commerce Expos, UKTI events and business breakfast where the team is on hand to help with guidance and advice.
“We’re very much looking forward to the Shropshire Business Awards 2014, it is always a fantastic celebration which acknowledges the drive and determination of so many businesses across a number of sectors.
“Businesses working together and supporting each other will also create a strong Shropshire economy. We’re always delighted to win business in the county and take great pride in assisting those companies looking to expand through overseas trade,” added Nicole.
