Freight firm highlights start-ups as major growth sector

An award-winning shipping company is forecasting significant growth this year as fledgling start-up businesses across the county continue to expand their import and export markets.

Telford-based Global Freight Services said its customer base had grown substantially throughout 2019 with newly launched companies forming the bulk of new business.

Managing director Anton Gunter said: “Despite the uncertainty of Brexit and the challenges this has brought to Shropshire businesses, we have seen many small businesses grow new overseas and European markets over the last 12 to 18 months.

“For us, start-ups have been a big growth sector which is a fantastic indicator that the region’s small business owners are growing in confidence.

“They are exploring new markets beyond the UK and in many cases looking at markets outside of Europe which will stand them in good stead when Brexit takes place.

“We are anticipating further growth in this area throughout 2020 as more and more small businesses begin to realise the benefits of importing and exporting, and to support this we are heavily investing in growing our global network of freight forwarding agents.

“This will make the process of importing and exporting even easier and more efficient for existing customers and new ones.”

Global Freight, which is based at Halesfield, already has a well established strategic partnership with the AerOceanNetwork (AON) and has now joined forces with international network Freight Lounge.

The move will almost double the number of trusted agents it works with across the globe and is likely to result in an increase in business volume as it offers its services to other businesses across the world.

Global Freight plays a significant role in helping businesses across the Marches, which has the highest two-year new business survival rate in the country*, to grow their international markets and it has been doing so for more than 20 years.

It offers free, expert advice to newly launched businesses looking to import or export for the first time and is credited with helping scores of businesses achieve their international trade ambitions.
